TwinView - nVidia GeForce GT 610 (Nouveau)

Hallo :-)

Ich hatte gerade so meinen ersten Kontakt mit xorg.conf usw. Ich habe 2 Monitore an meiner Karte angeschlossen :
Monitor0 : 19'' , analoger Flachbild über DVI und Monitor1 : 17'', digitaler Flachbild über VGA und ich habe den
nouveau -Treiber installiert

Ich habe mich an dem Arch-Wiki zu TwinView
zur Erstellung der 10-monitor.conf orientiert, aber sicherlich nicht alles richtig gemacht, da es leider nicht funktioniert.
Also der X-Server startet mit xfce4 wie vorher auch, nur leider habe ich nach wie vor auf beiden Monitoren das selbe
Bild und ich möchte ja den zweiten Monitor als Erweiterung der Arbeitsoberfläche nutzen.

Also ein paar kleine Fehler habe ich in meiner 10-monitor.conf schon selbst entdeckt und ausgebessert, aber jetzt stehe ich leider auf'm Schlauch. Könnte mir hierbei bitte jemand behilflich sein ?
Habe ja schon gelesen, dass xorg.conf etc. eigentlich eher unbeliebt ist - ich hoffe hier kennt sich damit vielleicht jemand aus. Vielen Dank schon mal im Voraus 🙂

~~Die quick&dirty Methode wäre nvidia-settings einfach eine xorg.conf schreiben zu lassen. Was spricht da dagegen? Die kannst du zur Not ja auch nur als Template für was eigenes nehmen.~~

Evtl. reicht es dir aber auch schon xrandr zu benutzen und die Befehle in deine .xinitrc zu schreiben. arandr ist ein schönes Frontend dafür und spuckt fix und fertige Befehlszeilen aus.

Ich werde mir das alles morgen in Ruhe anschauen, aber ich kann schon mal sagen, dass ArandR die Einstellungen perfekt setzt. Ich habe es auch mal probiert die fertige Befehlszeile in die .initrc zu setzen - bzw. habe ich getan - und neu gestartet, aber irgendwas ist da wohl schief gelaufen, weil ich mit ArandR erstmal wieder neu einstellen musste.

Oh echt nicht ?? :o Wow, aber weißt Du warum ? ich meine, gibt es da vielleicht einfach auch Gründe für ? Ich finde die xorg jetzt zwar auch nicht wahnsinnig toll - aber grundlegend schreckt mich jetzt z. B. die Syntax auch nicht sonderlich ab.
Der Aufbau ist von dem her, was ich so sehe wohl recht logisch. Eigenartig fand ich, dass so ohne weiteres die 10-monitor.conf einfach so angewandt wird beim nächstem Start von X, aber ok, wenn man das man weiß 😃

So ist Xorg-Server geschrieben. Alles, was in xorg.conf.d ist und auf .conf endet wird ruecksichtslos verwendet 😃

Zu deiner Frage: Habe es nie herausgefunden und aus zeitlichen Gruenden irgendwann aufgehoert zu suchen, da die Variante ueber xrandr perfekt funktionierte und sogar flexibler (Laptop) ist.

Zuvor hatte ich probiert xrandr-Befehle über die .xinitrc ausführen zu lassen, was leider auch nicht funktioniert. Fakt ist, dass ArandR bzw. xrandr die Monitore sauber und korrekt einrichten, jedoch gelingt es mir nicht, dies automatisch über die .xinitrc machen zu lassen.
Ich habe es auf zweierlei Weisen probiert, was aber meines Erachtens nach zumindest keinen Unterschied machen dürfte :
1) Ich habe die xrandr-Befehlszeile in einem Stück mit anschließendem & eingefügt :

xrandr --output VGA-1 --mode 1024x768 --pos 1024x0 --rotate normal --output DVI-I-1 --mode 1024x768 --pos 0x0 --rotate normal --output HDMI-1 --off &

2) Ich habe die x-randr-Befehle einzeln/ zeilenweise eingefügt :

Nein, auch das hat nicht funktioniert. Ich habe einen Weg gefunden, aber der stellt mich nicht zufrieden, weil es nicht über .xinitrc läuft - stattdessen habe im Anwendungsmenü unter Einstellungen - Sitzung und Startverhalten - Automatisch gestartete Anwendungen
einen Starter mit der Befehlszeile von/ für xrandr angelegt :

xrandr --output VGA-1 --mode 1360x768 --pos 1024x0 --rotate normal --output DVI-I-1 --mode 1024x768 --pos 0x0 --rotate normal --output HDMI-1 --off

Das funktioniert einwandfrei, also ist der Befehl korrekt bzw. liefert zumindest das gewünschte Bild und außerdem wir hiraus auch klar, dass aus irgendeinem Grund die von mir in die .xinitrc eingefügten Befehle nicht ausgeführt werden.

Also seit ich die .xinitrc verändert habe, habe ich auch noch 2 zusätzliche. Einmal die .xinitrc.save - die aber absolut keinen Inhalt hat, und die .xinit.save.1, die den vorigen Inhalt enthält.

Ich habe einen Fehler gemacht - ich wusste nicht, dass die .xinitrc beim Aufruf von startxfce4 nicht aufgerufen wird.
Aber ein startx ergab bei mir von Anfang an folgende Fehlermeldungen :

/usr/bin/startx: Zeile 181: Dateiende beim Suchen nach `'' erreicht.
/usr/bin/startx: Zeile 213: Syntax Fehler: Unerwartetes Dateiende.

Zeile 181 aus startx :

 server man need it. Add them to the '$xserverauthfile' instead.

Zeile 213 ist vollkommen leer - in Zeile 212 steht das hier :

Jo, und deine 5 Zeilen xrandr sind eben nicht korrekt.
Wenn startx Fehler liefert ist deine .xinitrc kaputt.
Wenn xrandr etwas einstellen soll mus X bereits laufen. Ergo muss der xrandr-Aufruf hinter der Desktopumgebung (xfce4) stehen. ergo ist deine xinitrc kaputt.

Moment - was an den xrandr-Zeilen ist denn nicht korrekt ?
Die Logik, dass X laufen muss, damit xrandr etwas einstellen kann, kann ich nachvollziehen. Aber mir wurde weiter oben geraten, die Einstellungen von xrandr übernehmen zu lassen und diese in die .xinitrc einzutragen.
Also habe ich mir den auch von dir verlinkten Artikel zu xinitrc durchgelesen und darin steht unter anderem :

"exec" sollte nur vor dem letzten Befehl stehen, weil dadurch die Shell, die die ".xinitrc" ausführt, durch das angegebene Programm ersetzt wird. Befehle nach dem "exec" würden also ignoriert.

Also wenn ich danach gehe, dann ist es wohl doch korrekt, dass ich die Befehle vorher stehen habe, oder nicht ?
Für mich ist das neu, deswegen frage ich. Ich würde es auch nach wie vor gern über xorg.conf machen, nur sind meine Versuche fehlgeschlagen, mir wurde zu xrandr geraten und es wurde mir ausserdem gesagt :

Ist das denn überhaupt zutreffend ??
Aber das mit startx ist erledigt - ich habe mir die *startx mal zu Gemüte geführt und ein geöffnetes, aber nicht geschlossenes Tüddelchen, also " gefunden. startx startet mir jetzt also auch xfce. Zuletzt habe ich es also so probiert :

Die 2 Fehlermeldungen von startx kamen, weil ein offenes " im Code war. Es war auch zu viel, ich habe es entfernt und danach stimmte auch das Syntax-Highlighting wieder.
Ich habe es nun auch nochmal in einer Zeile geschrieben, aber es wurde nach wie vor nicht ausgeführt.
An deinem Einwand, dass X erstmal laufen muss, damit xrandr etwas einstellen kann, ist bestimmt auch etwas dran !

Nun, ich interessiere mich definitiv für beide Varianten, weil beides neu für mich ist und weil ich auch so gestrickt bin, dass wenn so ein Problem im Raum steht ich es entweder lösen will, oder wenn es sich nicht lösen lässt zumindest wissen und verstehen will, warum es nicht geht 😃

Eine Konfiguration über xorg.conf war ganz klar das Ausgangsthema. Das interessiert mich brennend. Was nicht bedeutet, dass mich das andere weniger interessiert. Hmmm .... also ich würde gern beides in Erfahrung bringen, wenn möglich.
Klar geht es mir auch darum Ergebnisse zu haben, aber im Vordergrund steht für mich das System zu verstehen lernen !

Kannst Du es denn über xorg.conf lösen ? Ich habe schon, wie ja auch am Anfang des Threads zu sehen ist, ein paar Anläufe damit gehabt 🙂

PS : Ich nehme, was ich kriegen kann - ich bin da einfach wissbegierig, aber bei manchen Sachen brauche ich ein wenig Unterstützung 🙂
